Meet KWAY
Mark Acquaye (Aka KWAY) is a hip hop artist with a knack for introspective storytelling, sharp delivery and premium beat selection. The New Jersey native strives to tell stories that inspire others to be the best version of themselves. He first discovered his love of writing and creative expression in 2017. KWAY became increasingly eager to leverage his voice for social impact at the surge of social justice tensions in 2020.
Inspired by the ideals of childhood role model & civil rights activist, Malcolm X, KWAY began to craft his February 2021 debut, "Malcolm Next". The full length offering channels the rhetoric of the late revolutionary, diving deep into the complexities of the black experience in America, viewed through his lens as a first generation Ghanaian-American.
"Summer's Mosaic", the swift and light hearted follow-up to Malcolm Next, was delivered in June 2021. The release of this extended play proved his versatility as a songwriter and artist. Mosaic chronicled the feelings of anticipating the summer that followed a debilitating global lockdown. The collection of songs solidified KWAY's ability to make deeply personal yet relatable music that serves as therapeutic social commentary.
KWAY graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ with a B.S. in Applied Science Engineering. He currently resides in the DC Metro Area.
